Weekly Sunday review

Cadence:weekly

Ninety minutes, Sunday around six, before the new week starts to bleed into the old one. The shape is simple: scan, sync, queue. That’s it.

Scan. What actually happened this week, not what I remember wanting to happen. I open the calendar, the bank, and a fresh notebook page. I write down the three things that took more energy than I expected and the one thing that took less. That asymmetry is usually the most useful signal in the week.

Sync. Move anything that drifted. A bill that came in late. A meeting that should have been an email. A subscription I forgot I was paying for — there is always at least one. The financial review is not about budgeting, it’s about noticing. Most weeks there is nothing to fix; the value is the audit.

Queue. Three things for Monday morning, written down before I close the notebook. Not a full plan — just three things I want to walk in knowing I will do. The rest of the week will happen to me, but Monday I get to choose.

This has been the most durable practice I have. It started in 2022 as a half-hour scramble on Sunday night, and it has slowly earned its ninety minutes. Skipping it for two weeks in a row is the canary — when I skip, the following month is harder than it needs to be.
